Designer Profile| Pleasure Doing Business

Pleasure doing Business was started by designer Simone Gonzalez in March 2009 and it has been an upward rise for the brand ever since. Their signature bandage clothing (which Simone came up with in June 08 when she was teaching herself to sew) is not only fabulous made but also fabulously priced. With a fan following that includes the uber stylish Nicole Richie, Mary Kate and Rihanna and a gorgeous array of bandage skirts and dresses, it really is no wonder that PDB is such a coveted label!
I sat down with Ms. Gonzalez to have a chat about her very successful venture and here is an excerpt for you:
What do you think makes PDB different from other brands/labels?
I feel like it covers a broad spectrum of styles, trends, and basics, so anyone can fill their entire wardrobe with the collection.
Working in the fashion industry is pretty risky. One minute you’re in, the next minute you’re out. Did this have any effect on your choice to be a designer?
No, I knew if I put my mind to it I would be successful.
What kind of fabric do you most like to use?
I like to use all kinds of fabrics, I like seeing the different textures and colors put next to each other and used in ways most people wouldn’t think of using.
What kind of color palate are you more inclined to use?
Colors that express what is going on in my life at that moment.
Embellishments or no embellishments?
I think embellishments and small details are what make a garment feel special.
Busy prints of simple pattens/solid colors?
Its fun to mix and match both. Sometimes things need to be solid and simple, and sometimes you are feeling fun and crazy, which is what the patterns are for.
Bold or subtle?
A little of both, depending on your mood.
Bright colors or muted shades?
I like mixing the two together, to evoke different emotions through clothing.
What inspires your work as a designer?
People around me, politics, the city I live in; there’s nothing that doesn’t affect or inspire my work.
Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming collection?
We will be exploring some new sides of fashion that we haven’t touched on yet.
