Eyes Zipped Shut

By January 27, 2010

This Tuesday in Paris, French fashion designer Eric Tibusch took the art of makeup to a new level during his haute couture presentation. Now, I may not be the sort of woman who hangs around at the country club in the latest haute couture (in part because I don’t belong to a country club, but mostly because I’m not a woman) so perhaps I’m missing the point; but it would seem to me that pasting zippers on one’s face is as necessary and attractive as painting on false varicose veins to attend a leg model convention.

Of course, even in these troubling economic times haute couture isn’t meant to be something you just slap on to wear on your bikeride down to the dollar store – even if it is on rodeo drive.

But face zippers? really?

Fashion can inspire. Fashion can make you want the finer things in life, and make you look your best while working towards that goal. Fashion can also seem at times to be one big inside joke.

What do you think? Would you wear bits of hardware normally associated with crotch or purse openings on your face in order to complete the ensemble if you wore a frock like the one pictured? Let us know.

have to disagree with you- ir’s not something you would ever wear out, but haute couture is not about stuff you would wear, it’s about art – and frankly I think the ‘look’ he achieved by doing the zippers around the eye is pretty visually stunning…. just my opinion ;)

  2. Ha, ‘crotch openings on your face’! I see it as one of the elements of a theatrical show, and these ‘zippers’ were impressively executed. But I must say that I am always partial to the actual ‘beauty’ makeup. I find myself disappointed when the first face comes out with some kind of distraction applied to it, but the worst is when the girls just don’t look good. I think more times than not these gorgeous faces are made down to suit the theme of the show, and one type of application, particularly innovative eye make-up techniques, don’t work on every shape of eye and some wind up looking horrid. However, it’s nice to know the beauty of these models isn’t infallible!
