The Golden Opportunity

The Golden Globes – not as big as the Oscars, but big enough to make you a fashion outcast for the rest of your celebrity life if you walk the red carpet in anything less than fabulous. Here is a list of hits and misses at the Globes this year:
Sandra Bullock – Everyone loves Sandra B. but this curtain-like excuse for a dress by Bottega Veneta left all of Sandra’s in tears. The color was ghastly and so was the fabric, and the fact that it was see through didn’t help much either. On the bright side, her pumps and quilted mini-clutch were adorable.
Halle Berry – She may be a hot mom but this Kaufman Franco gown did nothing to flatter Halle’s gorgeous curves. The cut of the dress was fabulous but the detailing left me a little cold. The statement jewelry was truly divine though.
Mariah Carey - When it comes to glamour, has MC ever disappointed us? She worked a black Herve Leger by Max Azria gown and pulled the look together very well with minimal diamond jewelry and black box-clutch.
Jennifer Aniston – The very woman who sparks in the hearts of many a 30-something women the hope that they will look more and more like a supermodel as they grow older walked the GG Red Carpet in a one shouldered Valentino that had a slit down one leg and strappy heels.
Olivia Wilde – Known to have shed her clothes for many a magazine photo-shoots, Olivia covered up pretty well for the Globes, wearing a magnificent beaded Gucci gown. She pulled her hair up into a high-ponytail and wore more-or-less no jewelry. Olivia Wilde, FTW.
Drew Barrymore – From super cute child artist to super chic style icon, Drew had certainly come a long way. Wearing a nude, one-shouldered Atelier Versace gown, Drew was one of the best dressed of the night.
Heidi Klum – She gave us “Project Runway” and now she gives us this. Heidi wore a dreadful off-shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown with a chiffon fish-tail. The color was pretty enough, a light powder-blue, but the cut of the dress didn’t do much for me.
Emily Blunt – This British girl proved to all her fans that she is not only a great actor but also a great dresser. She wore a beautiful pale pink, strapless Dolche & Gabbana gown with two cuff bracelets and an embellished clutch.
Fergie – She showed off her newly toned figure in a strapless, chiffon Elie Saab with an embellished waist. Definitely one Fergie’s better red carpets. A tad too princess-y? Maybe. But it was a whole lot more classy than some of Fergie’s previous red carped ensembles.
January Jones – The gorgeous starlet wore a simple black Lavin gown. Need I say that she looked fabulous?
Kate Winslet – The Titanic beauty wore a very chic one-shouldered, navy Yves Saint Laurent and Tiffany jewelry. The dress did wonders for her curvaceous frame and the minimal make-up was best suited for this look.
Chloe Sevigny – Know to take fashion risks, Chloe wore a strapless, lilac Valentino gown and carried a satin Roger Vivier clutch to top off the look. While most people thought the look was over the top what with the ruffles flowing from all directions, I thought she wore the dress with great panache and looked amazing.
Anna Paquin – The gap-toothed “True Blood” star wore a shimmery gold Stella McCartney gown with chunky black and gold booties. The shoes were fabulous but the gown didn’t do much for Paquin; the plunging neckline and the slit right in the middle of the dress made it all very awkward.
Lea Michele – Lea M. of “Glee” fame wore a black, strapless Oscar de la Renta gown that can only be described as the fantasy of every girl. The full skirt and the corset-like bodice worked wonders for Lea and left men and women alike drooling over her.
Nicole Kidman – The ever-so-stylish Nicole K. left all the fashionistas out there on the verge of tears when she showed up at the Golden Globes red carpet in this awfully tacky Nina Ricci. The nude-cream color did not work well with her pale skin-tone and the draping was just wrong.
